TOPSoccer, Play or Volunteer

Since 1996, the Mt. Lebanon Soccer Association has sponsored a TOPSoccer Program. TOPSoccer is a national USYS outreach soccer program for children with special needs. Children from many South Hills communities participate. Their disabilities may include Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, or ADHD. Many of the participants have some degree of motor or coordination difficulties. Play is adapted to meet their level and ensure that challenges are achievable and fun. In addition to its athletic component, the program promotes social interaction and positive self-esteem.

TOPSoccer is organized by volunteers from the Mt. Lebanon Soccer Association and supported by many teen volunteers from South Hills communities. Every player has a "Soccer Buddy" to assist him or her on the field. These buddies have been the driving force in TOPSoccer – they help teach the players the game, provide encouragement, and add to the fun! The TOPSoccer program has been a win-win experience for players and buddies alike!

TOPSoccer has three seasons: spring, winter and fall. Fall and Spring are registered together for one fee whereas the Winter season has a separate registration and fee.

The program is open to special needs children and teenagers, ages 6 and up. Sunday afternoon/early evening sessions are beginning with warm-up activities and drills, and concluding with a brief game.
